How To Volunteer

CHIRP Radio is powered by passionate volunteers who share a love for independent music and community radio. Whether you dream of being on the airwaves, working behind the scenes, or helping spread the word about great music, there's a place for you at CHIRP.

Since 2008, more than 1500 independent radio enthusiasts have volunteered with CHIRP, lending the station their existing skills and learning new ones, meeting fellow music fans, and contributing to Chicago's vibrant non-commercial radio scene.

Please read on to learn more about volunteering for the station.

What Do CHIRP Volunteers Do?

While some enthusiasts come to CHIRP with a goal of being on the air, others work behind the scenes in one of the station's many departments.

Here are just a few examples of what CHIRP volunteers do:

  • Review albums for the music department
  • Learn and handle audio production responsibilities
  • Write for the CHIRP blog
  • Design materials to help market the station
  • Develop and carry out CHIRP events

CHIRP has just one full-time staff member and almost 300 volunteers, so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
